On October 8, 2011, the Vietnam Business Forum: Sustainable Business and Corporate Social Responsibility was hold by the coordination of Vietnam Business Council for Sustainable Development (VBCSD) under the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) with the project “Helping Vietnamese Small and Medium Enterprises Adapt and Adopt Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) for Improved Linkages with Global Supply Chains in Sustainable Production” which is funded by the Switch-Asia-Programme of the European Union.
While Vietnam’s economy is experiencing a tough time, burdened by prolonged inflation, corporate social responsibility (CSR) seems to be disregarded. On September 20, Vietnam Business Council for Sustainable Development of Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VBCSD- VCCI) collaborated with Group Det Norske Veritas (DNV) – VBCSD’s member - to organise the workshop entitled “Energy Sustainability in the Power Sector”, with the aim of raising awareness of business community about sustainable development in the energy sector.
Cassava is a cash crop that grows predominantly in the upland areas of Viet Nam, where high poverty rates and low soil fertility are common. Total land used for cassava cultivation in the three provinces of Thua Thien- Hue, Quang Binh and Quang Tri in the North Central region of Vietnam amounted to approximately 23,500 ha; with nearly 60,000 rural households cultivating cassava. Nearly 80% of cassava produced in the NC region is sold to retailers or local cassava tapioca starch processing factories, with the remaining volume used as animal feed and for ethanol production.
On August 16, Vietnam Business Council for Sustainable Development (VBCSD) convened a general meeting to introduce to the business community and related organizations the Executive Board, action plan and report on the past period and the Council in general.
