The Announcing Ceremony of Sustainable Businesses in Vietnam 2017: Sustainable Development means moving towards the change

On December 6, 2017, Vietnam Business Council for Sustainable Development (VBCSD) under Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) has announced the most sustainable companies in Vietnam 2017.

17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) has been adopted by 193 Member States of the United Nations in 2015, heading to a better future that nobody is left behind. A path of upcoming 15 years has been drawn to end poverty, fight against inequality, injustice, keep the peace and protect the planet.

17 SDGs has become significantly meaningful today, when the world is facing risks and danger due to political instability, exhaustion of natural resources, and extreme climate.

 

Sustainable development is a long journey involved strategic movement and pioneer from government, organizations and corporates. In business perspective, sustainable development is an essential trend on global scale, especially when long-term competitive advantages for companies is no longer generated from using natural resources and low-cost labor.

VBCSD has engaged the Corporate Sustainability Index (CSI) into the Programme of benchmarking and announcing the most sustainable businesses in Vietnam. The programme is launched annually to praise the national leaders in sustainable development, not only in corporate management but also in bearing corporate social responsibility.

On December 6, 2017, the Announcing Ceremony of Sustainable Businesses in Vietnam 2017 brought out the name of 99 sustainable companies from over 500 of those that took part in this year’s programme. The list has covered two sector: manufacturing and trading-service. This is to certify the achievement of Vietnamese businesses in sustainable development, encourage their devotion, plan and execution of sustainable strategy.

Delivering his speech at the Ceremony, Dr. Vu Tien Loc, President and Chairman of VCCI cum VBCSD Co-Chair, Head of the Steering Committee of CSI 2017 stressed that, sustainable corporates are evidences for the effort to create a sound environment for the achievement of 17 SDGs in Vietnam, aiming to the economic development along with serving society, growth without placing a burden on the next generation’s shoulders. According to Dr. Vu Tien Loc, this is the green seed of the 2030 Agenda and 17 SDGs in Viet Nam.
