Workshop on sustainable tourism in the protected areas

Responsible tourism contributes to the conservation of PA and at the same time can be seen as a business case for responsible tourism operators. In fact, changes in legislation may even open up new opportunities, by providing new investment models for involving the private sector into the conservation of PA. This can be seen as a great chance for the private as well as the public sector.
 
VBCSD, GIZ and DoNC are currently conducting a study on responsible tourism in and around PA, focussing on the challenges, opportunities and specific needs of tour operators and relevant governmental bodies. A survey has been completed with a number of tour operators who operate in protected areas as well Protected Area Management Boards.
 
Following the survey, a workshop is to be organized on July 25, 2012 with the aim to present the results of the survey and also to create a forum for businesses and governmental bodies to exchange opinions on challenges and opportunities for responsible tourism in and around PA, especially under the premises of recently approved legislations.
