On 30 November - 01 December 2012, at Hai Phong City Committee Guest House, Viet Nam Business Council for Sustainable Development (VBCSD) under Viet Nam Chamber of Commerce and Industry in collaboration with ETI Norway to co-organize the training course “ Latest updates on Labor Code; improving working conditions to enhance business productivity”. The purpose of the training course is to raise awareness among staff in factories, agents and local companies about improving conditions and labor standards, enhance responsible management, environmental friendly production towards long-term business relations and sustainable development. At the same time, participants can learn good practices and management experience from other enterprises operating in Viet Nam through interactions between trainers and suppliers, local workers and factory management. The training course was successfully held with the participation of approximate 200 northern enterprises.
The 1st day of the training course (30 Nov 2012), Honorary Professor Nguyen Duc Dan, Ex-official of Center for Preventive Health Care under The Hanoi Health Department imparted the participants with knowledge and skills about emergency in place before the existence of medical staff; workplace management; disease prevention; health control and labor sanitary in compliance with Viet Nam legislation. The presentations draw much attention from the participants. In addition to theoretical content of labor sanitation management, the participants had an opportunity to discuss and practice emergency management pending the arrival of medical staff such as heatstroke, chill, bone breaks, electric shocks, poisons ….and disease prevention illustrated with pictures and other interaction models. This provides the participants with basic knowledge and skills in dealing with occupational accidents in factories. Furthermore, legal regulations on forces organization, emergency means, emergency staff standards, disease prevention and monitoring as well as health management were paid attention and effectively absorbed.
On the 2nd day of the training (01 Dec 2012), Trainer Dang Duc San- Head of Legislation Department under Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs gave latest updates on Labor Code and provided the participants with legislations regarding standards, regulations and welfare policies for workers at the workplace, labor contract, vocational skills, salary, working hours, labor discipline, labor sanitation and safety, social insurance, unions, labor disputes,… Also at the training session, the participants interacted with the trainer in labor employment, and received active assistance and mentoring from the trainer. In particular, the collective labor agreement, forms of labor contracts, allowance, and insurance are among the issues that attract much attention. The trainer stressed that educating unions in factories, establishments now is of importance. As a result, union staff will be oriented with proper policies to protect worker’s rights and operation procedures. Wrapping up the training course, the participants obtained knowledge and experience in environmental management approaches, labor protection and labor safety and sanitation as well as legal base of current labor code and the organizer received positive feedbacks of the training course from the participants.
