VBCSD Hosts Second Assembly

The Vietnam Business Council for Sustainable Development (VBCSD) successfully organised the Second assembly and elected the Executive Board for the 2014 - 2016 term on February 20, 2014.
 
Dr Doan Duy Khuong, Vice President of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), was re-elected Co-chair.
 
Mr Vorapong Vorasuntharosoth of Dow Chemical International was also elected Co-chair of the second term, replacing the first-term Co-chair Gary Schutz, CEO of Holcim Vietnam.
 
Dr Doan Duy Khuong highly appreciated VBCSD’s roles in promoting sustainable development of the business community, particularly by implementing a huge number of effective and practical programmes from 2010 to 2013. These positive results will help achieve sustainable development objectives and strategies and enhance national competitiveness in the future.
 
From December 2010 to 2013, VBCSD focused primarily on communication, training, research, international cooperation, coordination with other governmental agencies and organisations, and membership development.
 
Mr Nguyen Quang Vinh, General Secretary of VBCSD, said, in the second term, VBCSD plans to boost currently effective activities and focus on important work like submitting the sustainability reporting and development tendency in Vietnam and the world to the Government, building corporate sustainability index (CSI) and industry competitiveness surveys (for tea, coffee, rubber, etc.).
 
Vice chairmen of the second term included Mr Gary Schutz, CEO of Holcim Vietnam, Mr Nguyen Duc Thuan, President and CEO of Thai Binh Shoe Company (TBS), and Mr Hoang Viet Ha, CEO of Bao Viet Holdings.
 
Mr Nguyen Quang Vinh, Director of the Office for Business Sustainable Development (SDforB), the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), was re-elected General Secretary.
 
Currently, VBCSD has 45 members, including 17 full members. It is expected to increase its membership to 57 in 2014 and 72 in 2015.
