The circular economy, representing a $4.5 trillion business opportunity, which, is a huge potential for world economic growth. By recycling and reusing waste into different resources and putting it into production, circulating economics is a cleaner and more economical production philosophy that contributes to environmental protection while promoting the development of the community to a sustainable future. The realization of the circulating economy will contribute to the implementation of the Paris Agreement and the 17 United Nations Millennium Development Goals.
Zero Waste to Nature initiative, the first activity within the framework of the Vietnam Centre for Circular Economy (VCCE) chaired by the Business Council for Sustainable Development in Vietnam (VBCSD) under the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), in collaboration with Unilever Vietnam Limited ("UVN"), Coca-Cola Vietnam Co., Ltd. ("CCBVL" ), and Dow Chemical Vietnam Co., Ltd. ("Dow") was officially launched in Ho Chi Minh City, marked by the kick-off ceremony at Aeon Mall Tan Phu Celadon on May 26th, 2018.
As a pioneering step towards a sustainable economy for a sustainable Vietnam, the Zero Waste to Nature initiative targets four goals: (1) Addressing issues arising from plastic waste, (2) build a road map to form and promote sustainable business models; (3) development of a cyclical-oriented value chain as well as policy recommendations to facilitate the rollout of the circular economy in Vietnam. In the first phase, the core activity of this initiative was the segregating waste at source, taking place in Tan Phu district. It was implemented by Unilever Vietnam cooperated with CITENCO Urban Environment Company. At the ceremony, Mr. Vo Tan Thanh – Vice President of VCCI said:" The program will be piloted by the Zero Waste to Nature initiative in the plastic industry for five years (2018 - 2022) with the pioneering of three companies namely Unilever Vietnam Limited, Coca Cola Vietnam Co., Ltd and Dow Chemical Vietnam Co., Ltd. From the experience of implementing the cyclical economy in the plastics industry, the program will be replicated with the participation of other large firms in aluminum, steel, cement, glass, wood, agricultural products and animal husbandry, gradually establishing a sustainable economic model and building a market for recycled and reusable materials in Vietnam”. Vision of Initiatives and VCCE received the support and consent of the city authorities.

Within the framework of the Launching Ceremony, representatives of the HCM City government, VCCI and other entrepreneurs took part in the initiative to visit Tay Thanh Apartment, giving gifts and encouraging households to apply the segregating at source model.
