As part of its ongoing commitment to environmental protection and operational excellence, AES Mong Duong has launched a program named ‘Enhancement of plastic waste management through segregation, reduction, reuse and recycling’. The main goal of the program is to eliminate single-use plastic and replace those harmful materials with environmentally-friendly and biodegradable alternatives.
The program will include a number of activities with the aim to both enhance awareness among local staff on environmental issues and take concrete steps to achieve meaningful changes in our operations.
Mr. Johnny Tanis, AES Mong Duong’s Plant Manager, said, “As a company, we are aware of the harm plastic waste causes to the environment, human health and the ecosystem. The initiative is part of our commitment to environmental protection and ensuring our business operations meet world-class safety standards, while at the same time driving continuous improvement of plant reliability and efficiency.”
Explaining further about the initiative, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Cong, Environmental Engineer, AES Mong Duong said, “Firstly, we will minimise the amount of single-use plastic products in our operations – including plastic bottles, bags, food packaging and straws – and prioritize the use of recyclable alternatives. Additionally, we will enhance the segregation of waste directly at our plant to ensure plastic trash is not combined with recyclable or hazardous materials.”
The plant will also conduct campaigns to raise awareness among employees, contractors, customers and the community about the harmful effects of plastic waste and the importance of minimizing single-use plastic products to protect the environment. Plastic bags will be replaced with environmentally-friendly options such as paper, rattan bags or cloth sacks.
The program was launched on the 2021 Environment Day on 6 June and will be implemented throughout 2021 with the aim to eliminate single-use plastic products from plant operations by the end of 2021.
