THE “0 DONG” MINI SUPERMARKET – A MEANINGFUL ACTIVITIES FOR DIFFICULT WORKERS IN THE COVID – 19 PANDEMIC IN HO CHI MINH CITY

This is a stressful time across the country, especially in Ho Chi Minh City since the COVID-19 epidemic appeared in Viet Nam, with the spirit of mutual development, Phu Nhuan Jewelry Joint Stock Company (PNJ) has launched the "Vong Tay Viet" campaign, in which the "0 dong" mini supermarket is the first meaningful activity opened on June 26 at Hiep Binh Phuoc Culture and Sports Center (Thu Duc).

Soon after that, 20 more mini-supermarket opened in Hoc Mon, Binh Tan, Phu Nhuan, Go Vap, District 8, Tan Phu, Binh Duong, Nha Be, Can Tho… promptly giving "Tam ve nghia tinh" to more than 20,000 the poor people severely affected by the pandemic.

"Vong Tay Viet" campaign was implemented under the coordination of PNJ with the Department of Industry and Trade of Ho Chi Minh City, the Association of Vietnam High-Quality Goods Enterprises, the Youth Workers Support Center, Women Entrepreneurs Association of HCMC and Young Entrepreneurs Association of HCMC.

The "0 dong" mini supermarket had more than 60 items of necessities, food, medical supplies such as sugar, milk, rice, eggs, cooking oil, fish sauce, noodles, fresh vegetables, and fruits… Each family will receive 3 tickets “Tam ve nghia tinh” (worth 200,000 VND/ticket) to buy goods. The supermarket opens from 8 am to 17 pm every day, so they can buy goods at different time frames in many days to ensure social distancing.

Beside that, the meaning of the "0 dong" mini-supermarket is not only giving "Tam ve nghia tinh" to the poor but also helping to connect benefactors. Instead of donating separately, benefactors could join hands together to help difficult people. Up to now, of the "0 dong" mini-supermarket has been supported by the cooperation of many sponsors. They are the owners of corporations or just people with enough food and clothes. Some people donated a few tons of rice, but some secretly brought here some kilograms of vegetables… They have different life conditions, different positions, but they all have the same heart for more miserable people than themselves. Thanks to that, the "0 dong" mini -supermarket now is not only the place of "shopping without checking the price" for the poor, but it is also a place of humanitarian value and connecting people.

Ms. Cao Thi Ngoc Dung, Chairwoman of PNJ shared: “I was very touched by the contribution and companionship of Hawee as well as other organizations, associations, and individuals for the campaign. "Our timely actions and the companionship of organizations, associations, and benefactors have partly relieved the poor and disadvantaged people of their difficulties in this period. We could leave no one behind in the tough fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. Through this campaign, we hope to support the poor and help them have the faith and self-development to get over this difficult time. We believe that these even small gifts lighted up in the heart of the giver - as well as the recipient - a fire of warm humanity that will burn forever."

Mrs Tran Thi Mai Ly, President of Vietnam Fatherland Front, Phu Nhuan District shared: “I am very appreciative of the hearts that PNJ and other units cooperated with to implement the 0 dong mini supermarket. This program has a special feature that in addition to giving people meaningful gifts and essential necessities for daily life, they also experience the feeling of shopping like going in a supermarket. With the cooperation of PNJ other organizations, enterprises, and many benefactors which the poor live in Phu Nhuan district in particular and Ho Chi Minh City in general have temporarily overcome difficult times due to the impact of the pandemic. I believe that love has a tremendous power, breaking down all barriers to bring people closer together. And the cooperation of PNJ and its companions will create miracles together.”

Recently, PNJ also donated 2,000 protective gears valued at VND 500 million to the Vietnam Fatherland Front in Ho Chi Minh City. Last time, PNJ organized a blood donation activity and also directly donated VND 02 billion to the Vietnam Fatherland Front in Ho Chi Minh City for the COVID-19 Prevention Vaccine Fund. At the beginning of June, PNJ staff in Bac Giang and Bac Ninh also held the "0 dong" mini suppermarket to provide necessities for the people here. Besides, PNJ also donated disinfection robots and medical equipment worth VND billions to hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City, Quang Tri, Quang Nam, and Quang Ngai.
