Conference on: “Sustainable cities – Challenges and Opportunities”

Over half of humanity already lives in cities today - and the trend is growing. Cities are helping to drive future growth, and the growth of these urban centers offers opportunities for development, employment and prosperity. However, the special needs of cities present an enormous challenge since the growth of urban infrastructure is approaching its limits. The consumption of natural resources is also particularly high in cities. They consume 75 percent of the world's energy and produce more than 80 percent of all greenhouse gas emissions, mostly CO2. Energy-efficient and sustainable infrastructure is therefore urgently needed for buildings, transportation, and energy and water supply.
