This is the second year of the Dow Vietnam STEM Program. Working with the United States Agency for International Development’s (USAID) Building University-Industry Learning and Development through Innovation and Technology (BUILD-IT) Alliance, implemented by Arizona State University, Dow Vietnam developed the STEM Program to support student-led innovation and service learning at Vietnamese universities. The Dow Vietnam STEM program sponsorship provided funding for students’ projects, faculty support, and industry-based mentoring to ensure the success of over 150 students and the 27 competing student teams.

Before the final showcase, on December 21, 2018, the Mentorship Day that was held at Saigon Hi-Tech Park with the participation of eleven volunteer employees of Dow Vietnam was an excellent chance for the students to meet with industry partners and get feedback on their designs and solutions from Dow Vietnam Team. The Dow Vietnam STEM Program is also collaborating with USAID BUILD-IT to launch the Maker to Entrepreneurship Program, providing top teams from today’s showcase with an opportunity to further develop their ideas and project concepts, and the Undergraduate Research Initiative program preparing young minds in the fundamentals for innovative research.
Joining the students at the competition, Mr. Tomoyuki Sasama, Country Manager of Dow Vietnam, was excited to see the students’ prototypes and shared that, “Our Dow STEM Program is to inspire the students with innovation and entrepreneurship to support the sustainable development of their local community as well as to support future workforce development through practical education and a strong awareness of environmental protection. This STEM program is one of our signature projects to help the community solve its challenges. Dow will continue to support the best teams to commercialize their innovations in the market”.

The three best teams that won the prize were students from HCM City University of Technology developed an anti-theft alarm for improved public safety, HCM City University of Technology and Education made a smart walking cane for the elderly and students from Danang University of Technology also make a smart walking cane which can help the blind to walk.

30 November 2018 – The Zero Landfill In Circular Economy Conference organized by INSEE Vietnam has taken place in Ho Chi Minh City. The conference has successfully created a forum where more than 200 local & international business leaders, government officials, environmental consultants, economists and associations can connect, exchange and discuss about the mechanism of Zero Landfill and Circular Economy. The conference thereby reaffirmed the important role of these two concepts in the development of Vietnam’s green economy. Dow joins Circulate Capital and the Ocean Conservancy with investments to keep plastic waste out of the environment
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc attended the Green Growth and the Global Goals (P4G) Summit in Copenhagen on October 20, which also drew leaders of 30 Vietnamese enterprises in green energy, trade, investment, and high technology. Each of the public-private partnerships will receive USD 100,000 in funding to advance their project to support green growth and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in a range of developing countries.
