HEINEKEN VIETNAM IN TIMES OF UNCERTAINTY – PEOPLE ARE OUR PRIORITY

Hanoi, 25 September 2020 – HEINEKEN Vietnam, one of the most sustainable companies in Vietnam, today joins the Vietnam Corporate Sustainability Forum (VCSF), themed “Sustainable development in the new decade: turn challenges into opportunities.” The forum is organized by the Vietnam Business Council for Sustainable Development under the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VBCSD – VCCI).

Ms Le Thi Ngoc My, Sustainability Director, HEINEKEN Vietnam

HEINEKEN Vietnam recognizes its role in creating a positive, long-lasting impact with a strong commitment to sustaining prosperity, empowering people and protecting the planet for a better Vietnam. Representing HEINEKEN Vietnam at the forum, Ms. Le Thi Ngoc My, Head of Sustainability remarks, “The health and safety of our people and partners remain our most important priorities in this time of uncertainty. Our sustainability agenda continues to guide us through COVID-19 and we will stay committed to taking measures to protect our people, safeguarding the business continuity of our customers and offering solidarity to the communities impacted by the pandemic.”

To protect its employees during COVID-19, HEINEKEN Vietnam has provided information, guidance and updates to all staff. Two-way communication channels were set up so inquiries about health and safety from employees were responded to in a timely manner by the company’s medical doctors and its Management Team. Additionally, all employees were equipped with masks, liquid sanitizers and anti-bacterial tissues. Temperature checks were taken at all breweries and offices, and social distancing was applied to gathering areas such as meeting rooms and canteens.

Representative of HEINEKEN Vietnam shared about sustainability strategy and experience against Covid-19

To support business partners, when restaurants and bars were mandated to close due to social distancing, HEINEKEN Vietnam initiated both internal and external activities to support business partners. The internal program, “Join Hands to Recover,” mobilized 440 employees in 11 cities and provinces together with the Sales team to visit and show support to over 100 outlet owners once they reopened. For consumers, Tiger beer organized the program, “Uncage the Street Vibes,” and gave away 1.5 million free Tiger bottles across 47 cities & provinces to encourage them to visit their favorite bars once again

To join hands with local communities in the fight against COVID-19, HEINEKEN Vietnam donated a total of VND 12 billion and 22,000 masks under the brands Bia Viet and Larue, which went to relief efforts in the most vulnerable locations across Vietnam. Earlier in the year, HEINEKEN Global also contributed €15 million in response to COVID-19 through the International Federation of Red Cross. The company also committed to no structural layoffs due to the pandemic for the remainder of 2020 – across its global network of companies.

As part of the two-day forum, Ms. My was also moderating a panel discussion on circular economy. HEINEKEN Vietnam was among the highlighted companies at the forum for applying the circular economy model into daily operations. For example, five out of six of HEINEKEN Vietnam’s breweries are using 100% renewable thermal energy, 99% of all by-products are reused or recycled, creating virtually zero waste, and 100% of its wastewater is treated before being returned to the environment.
