SCG TO KICK-OFF THE FIRST-TIME-EVER “HACKS TO HEAL OUR PLANET” COMPETITION IN VIETNAM

Ho Chi Minh City, May 12th, 2022 – SCG, one of the leading conglomerates in the ASEAN region, officially announces the “Hacks to heal our planet" contest in Thailand, Indonesia, and Vietnam which allows the new generation to show their creative ideas in improving the environment, building a better society, and ensuring a better world for future generations. In Vietnam, SCG cooperates with the Student Assistance Center (SAC), citizens aged 15 to 30 are invited to unleash their talent, share their innovative ideas in the environmental sector with the total prize being up to 100.000.000 VND. Through the contest, SCG not only hopes to create a large-scale playground for the talented new generation, but also affirms its responsibility of business in leading young people to join hands towards a greener and better planet.

Adopting the ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) approach which is in line with the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations, the ESG idea pitching contest - “Hacks to heal our planet" is divided into 3 categories:

  • Ideas to Solve the Environmental Problems (Environmental): How to solve environmental problems, address climate change, harness the power of renewable energy, and deal with resource scarcity.
  • Ideas to Solve Inequality Problem and Inclusion & Diversity Problem (Social Inequity): How to reduce social inequality, promote respect for diversity in race and ethnicity, skin color, and gender preference (LGBTQ+), and reduce economic inequality.
  • Ideas to Solve the Problem of Transparency and Injustice (Governance): How to solve problems of transparency and unfairness, corruption, morality and ethics.

As the world is facing problems and challenges all around, ESG is no longer just a tool to create long-term business growth. Rather, it can be a tool to help all sectors, including the government, the private sector, and the public, as "good citizens", to come together and solve the crises that have arisen in these three dimensions. Being a pioneer in sustainable development, for many years, SCG has participated in solving the problems in order to build a better world for the next generation.

In Vietnam, to enhance people’s lives in society, SCG focuses on the environmental sector by not only striving to develop green or eco-friendly products and innovations but also offering opportunities for the young generation to tackle climate change, global warming, and resource scarcity with creative ideas and impactful solutions. With the “Hacks to heal our planet" contest, the corporation aims to create awareness of the environmental challenges that arise and support the new generation to solve problems with their brilliant ideas.

“Being aware of the importance of the environment, nowadays, young people have been very active in adopting a green lifestyle. SCG would like to be a part of this movement by encouraging them to speak out for our planet. At the ESG idea pitching contest -  “Hacks to heal our planet”, Vietnamese participants are provided a platform where they can showcase their novel environmental solutions with ASEAN counterparts and contribute to the sustainable development of the region in general and Vietnam in particular. By calling for the participation of the young, SCG believes we can ensure a greener and cleaner world for the next generations” Mr. Piyapong Jriyasetapong, General Director of SCG Vietnam.
