This is a follow-up activity after the Kick-off Ceremony of the smart factory development cooperation project, which took place on May 24 and 25, 2022, in the provinces including Bac Ninh, Vinh Phuc, Hanoi, Hung Yen, and Ha Nam.
From July 4, 2022, to July 7, 2022, Samsung Vietnam, in collaboration with the Ministry of Industry and Trade along with localities, held the closing ceremony of the project "Smart factory development cooperation" phase 1/2022 at 14 participating enterprises to summarize and evaluate its performance.
Participating in the program, there was the presence of Mr. Ngo Khai Hoan - Deputy Director General of the Department of Industry; Mr. Cao Van Binh - Director of the Center for Industrial Development Support, Ms. Nguyen Huong Giang - Chairman of Bac Ninh Province; leaders of Vinh Phuc Planning and Investment Department; leaders of the Industry and Trade of Bac Ninh Department, along with other agencies and departments.
On the Samsung side, there were Mr. Choi Joo Ho, President of Samsung Vietnam; Mr. Choi Kyoung Soo, Deputy General Director in charge of Samsung Vietnam procurement center; consultants from Samsung Korea and representatives of businesses participating in the project.
Management Board of Samsung Vietnam directly visit and evaluate project implementation results at enterprises
After nearly 3 months of implementation (April 12 ~ July 7, 2022), the 1st smart factory development cooperation project has achieved many impressive results. The Vietnamese and Samsung Korea's consultants directly participated in surveying, evaluating, and giving advice to businesses in the field.
The project has also consulted the development of the smart factory model for 14 enterprises, including 07 enterprises in Bac Ninh province, 02 enterprises in Vinh Phuc province, 03 enterprises in Hanoi city, 01 enterprise in Hung Yen province, and 01 enterprise in Ha Nam province, achieving many improvement results.
Among the 14 participating enterprises, 3 companies including Manutronics Vietnam Joint Stock Company, Chien Thang Industry Co., Ltd, and An Lap Plastic Co., Ltd. have recorded remarkable improvements in maximizing the information system through the following activities: Creating environment that collects and shares production lead time; Standardizing the process of managing attachment parts, components, spare parts & system application and coding them, optimizing management process; applying equipment construction material structure; applying barcode scanning to manage production results and inventory status; employing software to manage production, equipment and defect rate.
5 enterprises, namely Hanoi Plastic Joint Stock Company, An Phu Viet Plastic Co., Ltd., Haast Vietnam Co., Ltd., Hanpo Vina Joint Stock Company, Tran Thanh Co., Ltd., after the consulting process, have built and effectively deployed real-time data collection through the following activities: Applying barcode scanning to manage production results and the status quo of import and export; Installing sensors at production machines to collect real-time data; Installing observation screens at necessary locations to update real-time data sheets (equipment errors, product defects, inventory, production status, etc.); Periodic data analysis.
In addition, the project also supported consulting on the improvement of production status for 6 enterprises: JK Viet Nam Industrial Joint Stock Company, DM Vina Co., Ltd., Accuracy Joint Stock Company, Production and Import-Export Company. Hanoi Packaging Exporter, Thinh Vuong Manufacturing and Trading Co., Ltd., Postal Equipment Joint Stock Company; helping these enterprises build a safe production environment, sort and arrange equipment and tools; helping to build management KPI tables with excel; reducing the operation time of the stage; optimizing placement at the factory and to reorder warehouse in a more intuitive way.
In general, before participating in the project, Vietnamese enterprises have to collect and manage data locally, and information about the process operation is updated slowly, often in days or weeks, affecting the speed and efficiency of decision-making of managers. Enterprises participating in the program were trained and guided to plan strategies and build a throughout route toward "Smart Factory." The management system includes redesigned processes to optimize and ensure a smooth and continuous flow of operational information. Management solutions based on digitization and automation are transferred directly from Samsung experts, making both the management system and the production site significantly changed from receiving requirements and developing production plans to storing and delivering products. Data related to productivity, quality, delivery, cost, etc. are managed and analyzed in real-time to help managers quickly, easily, and accurately make decisions.

According to Mr. Ngo Khai Hoan - Deputy Director of the Vietnam Industry Agency: "After participating in the project, Vietnamese enterprises have made very encouraging improvements in perfecting and optimizing the production process, systematizing the database, and ensuring the application of smart factories. I would like to uphold the responsibility and progress of businesses when they have constantly strived before, during, and after the improvement process. I hope that businesses participating in the program continue to maintain and further promote the effectiveness of the Smart Factory development cooperation project, thereby contributing to the overall development of the supporting industry across the country.”
After the project, the consulted enterprises will continue to develop the smart factory system under the online consultation of Korean experts in order to improve their competitiveness and increase their ability to participate in the global supply chain, contributing to promoting the development of Vietnam's supporting industry. The project "Smart factories development" phase 2 will be implemented in the southern region from August 2022, to advise 12 businesses.
The Smart factories development in localities is an activity within the framework of the Smart Factory Cooperation Project, signed by Samsung in collaboration with the Ministry of Industry and Trade in February 2022 with the goal of supporting the development of smart factories in 50 enterprises and training 100 Vietnamese experts in the field of smart factory consulting in 02 years (2022 – 2023).
Since 2015, the Ministry of Industry and Trade and Samsung have cooperated to implement an advancement consulting program to enhance competitiveness for 379 Vietnamese enterprises.
During the period 2018-2021, the Ministry of Industry and Trade and Samsung trained 406 experts in supporting industries in Vietnam. In addition, realizing the importance of the mold field in industrial production, the Ministry of Industry and Trade and Samsung continued to implement a project to train 200 mold technicians in the period of 2020 - 2023. Through efforts to find supplier businesses, the number of Samsung tier-1 enterprises has increased sharply. In 2014, the number of tier-1 enterprises was only 4 enterprises, this number has increased to 51 enterprises by the end of 2021. Along with that, the number of tier-2 enterprises also reached 203 enterprises.
To offset CO2 emissions from the company’s production and operational activities, JTI Vietnam has launched many projects from 2020 under the program “Net-Zero Carbon Emission”. In 2022, the company continues to sequestrate 202 tons of CO2 by burying bamboo to create biochar and tending to bamboo forests. This initiative is implemented by JTI Vietnam in Thanh Hoa, in partnership with Water Solutions SEA.

La Vie LLC., a member of Nestlé in Vietnam, has accompanied Long An Water Supply Sewerage Joint Stock Company (Lawaco) in upgrading water treatment capacity from surface water in a bid to help Lawaco have additional water supply for people in Tan An city of Long An, meeting increasing water consumption demand while protecting water resource.
In June 2022, the Representative Office of JTI Vietnam, in collaboration with Habitat for Humanity Vietnam, successfully deployed the Housing Solutions for Persons with Disabilities program of 2022. This is a three-year initiative in JTI Vietnam’s Community Investment program, focusing on the construction of new accessible homes for marginalized individuals and minorities, particularly persons with disabilities. Prioritizing inclusivity, the program accommodates housing for various types of disabilities. The program’s outcomes include a standard manual of design features for persons with disabilities, as well as 5 accessible houses that apply features from the manual.
