Nestlé La Vie accompanies Long An water company in ensuring the supply of household water

La Vie LLC., a member of Nestlé in Vietnam, has accompanied Long An Water Supply Sewerage Joint Stock Company (Lawaco) in upgrading water treatment capacity from surface water in a bid to help Lawaco have additional water supply for people in Tan An city of Long An, meeting increasing water consumption demand while protecting water resource.

Today, the additional surface water treatment system of Lawaco’s Tan An water supply plant is officially inaugurated and put into operation, upgrading from the current capacity of 12,000m3/ day to 16,800m3/ day by using water of Bao Dinh lake. The total investment amounts to nearly VND 7 billion, from Lawaco's budget and La Vie's sponsorship.

Currently, Lawaco is providing water that meets the national quality standards of domestic water for 100% of people in the city and about 50% of people in the suburbs of Tan An. According to Lawaco, the demand for household water use in Tan An city is forecasted to increase by 3-5% per year. Also, people in suburban communes are in an urgent need of access to clean water. At the same time, it is necessary to limit the use of groundwater and replace with surface water in treatment and providing water for community, aiming to ensure sustainable water sources for the future generations, according to the directive of the People's Committee of Long An province.

Therefore, the upgrade of the surface water treatment capacity at Lawaco will contribute to speeding up the expansion of clean water supply for people in Tan An city and surrounding areas, as well as help reduce the dependence on groundwater in domestic water supply, addressing the groundwater overuse which is one of the biggest shared water challenges in the province.

During last 30 years, as a leading natural mineral water company in Vietnam, La Vie has always strived to preserve mineral water resource and contributed to sustainable stewardship of shared water sources where the company operates. Sponsorship to Lawaco's project is one of La Vie's efforts to contribute to the socio-economic development of Long An province, as well as help ensure the sustainability of local water resources.

La Vie is considered as one of the businesses with a strong commitment to protecting shared water resources in Vietnam. As of today, La Vie is the only recipient of the Alliance for Water Stewardship (AWS) certification in the country by meeting global standards for water resource management.

AWS Standard is a globally applicable framework for major water users to understand their water use and impacts, and to work collaboratively and transparently for sustainable water management within a catchment context. The Standard is intended to drive social, environmental and economic benefits at the scale of a catchment. The certification audit is conducted strictly by an independent audit body authorized by AWS.

Going beyond the conservation of water sources, La Vie now commits to advancing the regeneration of the water cycle to help create a positive water impact everywhere it operates by 2025. The company has two factories located in Long An and Hung Yen.

La Vie is the first foreign invested enterprise (FDI) in the packaged drinking water industry in Vietnam since 1992. Creating Shared Value (CSV) has always been fundamental to the way the Nestlé’s member does business, creating value both for shareholders and for society, and safeguarding resources for today and future generations. In particular, La Vie has implemented many environmental initiatives, focusing on protecting water resources, reducing plastic waste and carbon emissions.
