On 21 October 2022, as part of the AES Values Day 2022 celebrations, AES Mong Duong, a subsidiary of AES Vietnam, implemented a number of activities focusing on empowering communities with safety knowledge and drowning prevention skills. More than 100 people attended the program, including representatives of local authorities, residents and leaders and staffs of AES.
One of the key highlights of the event is the showcase of drowning prevention skills where local children, people in the community, and AES staff presented skills they have learned from the previously organized swimming class for 180 local students in August 2022, and drowning prevention training from 14-18 October, also by AES. The participants included 130 people including students, members of the Cam Hai commune and local hamlets, and a number of AES staff, under the instruction of trainers from the University of Fire Prevention and Firefighting.
Another meaningful activity at the event is the handover of life vests and ring buoys to 109 fishing households in Cam Hai Commune, which account for one-fifth of Cam Hai commune’s population.
The support package, which amounts to nearly VND700 million including facilities, training, and necessary equipment, aims to enhance knowledge and showcase to local people the necessary skills to prevent drowning accidents and provide them with equipment and rescue methods as well as first aid measures.
“At AES, our values of 'Safety First', 'Highest Standards' and ‘All Together' are the foundation of our business worldwide and in Vietnam. They not only guide our actions, but also provide a common framework for how we interact with other people at AES, conduct business, and serve our customers and communities. With the support package, we are proactively translating our AES Values into CSR activities that improve lives and make a difference in the communities that we serve,” said Joseph Uddo, President, AES Vietnam.
The support activities are part of AES’ CSR program in Vietnam. Since 2012, over 130 CSR initiatives, with a total value of more than VND12 billion, have been implemented, focusing on four main pillars – Health, Education, Livelihoods and Infrastructure. The activities have made a lasting difference and contributed to improving the quality of life of more than 200,000 people in communities around Cam Pha City, Quang Ninh Province and Binh Thuan Province.
