Following the Prime Minister's request in 2020 to plant one billion trees, and coordinating the implementation of the target of 20 million trees of Thailand Charoen Pokphand Group, C.P. Vietnam Corporation (CPV) has implemented a tree planting project called "C.P. Vietnam – Journey for a Green Vietnam 2021 - 2025". The goal of the project is to plant 1 million trees in Vietnam, in provinces where the company has production and business activities, and in some provinces where forests are destroyed by natural disasters.
Hue is a province in Central Vietnam, the province currently has 304,081 hectares of forested land according to the current status announcement in 2021. According to statistics, the forest area of the province is decreasing due to the unreasonable exploitation process, as well as the impact of natural disasters and climate. Hue provincial authorities have been taking many measures to prevent and restore forests through new planting and additional planting of forest areas in a sustainable way.
In the process of learning about the implementation of the above project in Hue province, through connection with the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, CPV saw the need for the province to coordinate afforestation in Phong Dien district, where the company has business activities of seafood processing factory and several local Shrimp Farms. This is also one of the provinces in the sustainable tree planting project of "C.P. Vietnam – Journey for a Green Vietnam 2021-2025", with the goal of contributing to environmental protection, aiming to be a sustainable environmental enterprise.
Through surveying some forests, researching, and discussing, C.P. Vietnam decided to coordinate with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Hue province, and the Song Bo Protection Forest Management Board to plant and care for protective forests in a sustainable way at place 4, zone 67, Phong Xuan commune, Phong Dien district, on an area of 30 hectares with 25,000 trees of the types of Heritiera cochinchinensis, Nauclea Orientalis and Litsea amanuensis are perennial trees that protect forests, keep the land against erosion and prevent floods.

Representatives of CPV were Mr. Banchong Buahung – Vice President of Aquatic Feed and Shrimp Farm, Mr. Worawit Arunraksa – Assistant Vice President, Manager of the Corporation Sustainable Development Office, with the staff of Hue seafood processing factory, and Hue/ Quang Tri shrimp farm joined. On the side of Hue provincial authorities had Mr. Nguyen Dai Anh Tuan – Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr. Le Ngoc Tuan – Director of the Forest Protection Department, Mr. Pham Ngoc Dung – Director of Song Bo Protection Forest and some of the local people participating in afforestation. Through the launch, more than 2000 trees have been planted, and the afforestation project will be completed in December 2022 with a care period of 6 years 2022-2027.

In addition to afforestation activities in Hue province, in 2021 CPV has success planted 40 hectares of mangroves in Ben Tre province with a 95% survival rate of Sonneratia caseolaris trees, contributing to protecting Ba Lai river, reducing erosion, increasing green areas, contributing to biodiversity.

The implementation of CPV's sustainable afforestation project not only contributes to reducing greenhouse gases to protect the environment but also has social impacts by generating more income for local people in the process of planting and caring for forests. Hopefully, the forests that CPV has been and will plant will always develop sustainably, contributing to minimizing the impacts of climate change in Vietnam.
