THE PROJECT LAUNCHING CEREMONY OF IMPROVING COMMUNITY RESILIENCE TO DISASTERS IN CENTRAL VIETNAM

JTI Foundation cooperated with Habitat for Humanity Vietnam to organize the project launching ceremony of “Improving community resilience to disasters in Central Vietnam”.

According to statistics, every year in Central Vietnam, it is often affected by natural disasters, which is the place with the highest concentration of storms compared to the whole country. The damage caused by natural disasters is more severe. In recent years, along with climate change, natural disasters in the region have become frequent and irregular with acceleration, causing significant consequences, and severely affecting human life and society.

Understanding these difficulties, the JTI Foundation and Habitat for Humanity have coordinated to implement the project of improving community resilience to disasters in Central Vietnam. The project opening ceremony took place successfully in Tan Binh town, Hiep Duc district, Quang Nam province with the massive participation of local governments and people on June 06.

To reduce the vulnerability to natural disasters of the communities in the Central region, specifically Quang Nam province. The project focuses on capacity building, and local disaster risk reduction. In addition, to providing resilient housing interventions to help communities cope with disasters.

The purposes of the project are to establish 02 communities that have enhanced capacity for disaster risk reduction in Hiep Duc and Tien Phuoc districts; 100 persons learn about the project’s interventions and impacts; and 200 community members benefit from community infrastructure improvement initiatives. The project will support 100 households of which 40 new houses will be built and 60 existing ones renovated to be more disaster resilient.

Over two decades of operation, JTI Foundation has been constantly helping those affected by natural disasters and epidemics, through cooperation with many global partners, including Vietnam. Accompanying Habitat for Humanity in this project, the JTI Foundation wishes to contribute to building disaster-responsive communities in Central Vietnam by enhancing local capacity and providing housing interventions.

AES Mong Duong supports sustainable livestock development in Quang Ninh Province
