8th Executive Board Meeting

Hanoi, 08th May 2013 afternoon, the 8th Executive Board Meeting was successfully held at Room 311, VCCI Building, No 09 Dao Duy Anh Str., Dong Da Dist., Hanoi) from 14:00 to 16:00 with the participation of the EB members.

At the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Quang Vinh, VBCSD Secretary General presented Progress Report and Work Plan and the active discussions including:

1. Activities completed and on going since January 2013

• 15th Jan.: VBCSD General Meeting with more than 140 participants

• 15th Jan.: VBCSD Executive Board Meeting and Meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan;

• 30th Mar.: Organizing the SCR Award 2012 Ceremony with more than 300 participants, live broadcasted on VTV1 channel

• 02 WBCSD publications: Changing Pace and Energy Mix translated, will be printed in May 2013 and disseminated in June 2013;

• 11 articles on sustainable development in Vietnam published;

• VBCSD General Secretary attended the WBCSD Regional Network and Liaison Delegate Meetings 2013 ;

• Supported Vietnam Business Challenge Fund in organizing two road shows to promote inclusive business by co-funding promising business models with financial support up to US$ 800,000.

Group 1: Communication / awareness-raising activities

• Develop articles on SD topics to be monthly posted on newspapers/ magazines

• Produce 03 talk shows on television on international integration, SD and competitiveness improvement

• Develop and publish publications/manuals/ guidelines on sustainable development, competitiveness and international integration

• Maintain and update VBCSD website

• Provide consultancy on applying SD practices or models for craft villages and business associations

• Organize Annual Corporate Sustainability Forum

• Organize consultancy workshops on embedding CSR in university and colleges curriculum

• Organize two workshops on sustainability reporting (in collaboration with GRI and Global Compact Vietnam Network)

• Co-organize a forum on “business sectors ‘s involvement in respond to climate change in Vietnam” (in collaboration with SP-RCC)

• Set up a framework for Public Private Partnership to enhance the activities of both private and public sectors.

• Coordinate and support provinces to implement their SD initiatives, projects, programs…

• Collaborate with VBCSD members to organize 01 workshop on SD subjects

Group 2: Training activities

• 01 traning workshop for VBCSD members on good practices in sustainability and regional and international lessons learned

• 01 traning workshop for key cadres of VBCSD at VCCI branch and representative offices

• 04 traning workshops for SMEs in provinces on sustainable development practice

• 28 training workshops of sustainable development in VCCI branches Hai Phong, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh city, Vung Tau and Can Tho

Group 3: Research activities

• 01 workshop to disseminate research findings on "Situation on energy use in steel, cement and paper sectors“

• Research on business competitive capacity in some labor-intensive sectors

• Produce 2 reports proposing recommendations of SD policies in Vietnam (as results of working groups)

• Conduct a survey on sustainability reporting in Vietnam

• Working with WBCSD and other BCSDs on the Corporate Sustainability Index (CSI) and proposal to rank 100 most sustainable companies in Vietnam

Group 4: International cooperation activities

• Invite international organizations, keynote speakers to visit Vietnam and organize workshops or forums on SD

• Participate in WBCSD Meeting (Montreaux, April & Turkey, November), Global Compact Network (Geneva, April & New York, September), ASEAN CSR Network (Singapore, May)

• Assist Laos and Cambodia to establish their BCSDs

Group 5: Joint action programs

Continue organizing 3 working groups:

• Working group on Energy Efficiency and Climate Change

• Working group on Inclusive Business

• Working group on Vision 2050
