The Personal finance series attracts over 1,000 students

More than 1,000 students gained insights into building financial independence and investing with small capital at a series of workshops organized by the Vietnamese Students’ Association.

The program, titled “Financial Freedom for Gen Z: From Survival to Fulfillment,” took place at International University -IU (October 12), University of Economics and Law - UEL (October 13), and the Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City – VNU-HCM (October 19). Experts discuss personal finance management at the University of Economics and Law - October 13

The workshops addressed various topics surrounding personal financial planning, creating stable income streams, and managing spending effectively. Experts shared stories and practical tips on budgeting and expense management related to different stages of student life.

Dr. Ngo Ngoc Quang, a lecturer at Ho Chi Minh University of Banking and member of the Advisory Board of the Vietnam Financial Consultancy Association (VFCA), shared insights on generating VND 100 million through savings and compound interest. Once students hypothetically achieved their first VND 100 million, they learned strategies to “keep the money” and “make money work for them.”

Another hot topic was the challenge of managing finances. Speakers noted that many Gen Z individuals struggle with financial planning and expense prioritization. To gain financial independence, students must progress beyond “survival” and begin saving assets.

The experts also emphasized the importance of building intangible assets such as knowledge, skills, and professional networks. As students approach graduation, developing a clear financial plan becomes essential to preparing for the future.

Students listening closely to expert advice

Not only did the events attract students from the host universities, but also drew attention from those at nearby institutions, such as the University of Information Technology, University of Technology, and Open University. During discussions, students shared their current income sources and personal financial management strategies.

Mr. Vo Kim Long, Head of Lending Products and VAS at Home Credit Vietnam, emphasized the importance of financial education for students. He noted that understanding and effectively using financial products is crucial for building sustainable personal finances and fostering a healthy consumer finance market. Financial institutions play a key role in providing information and supporting young customers throughout this journey.
