Culture is a business strength

"Building a cultural environment gives further strength not only to an individual but also to a team," said Mr. Hoang Minh Chau, Member of the Council of Founders of FPT Corporation.

On May 30, Hoang Minh Chau, Member of the Council of FPT Founders and Head of FPT Representative Office in Myanmar, was invited to lecture on personnel management at the FPT School of Business (FSB) under FPT University in Ho Chi Minh City.

"Finding and employing talents is as important as strategy building and a company must have a clear strategy to attract talents," he said.

He took the case at FPT as example. When Truong Gia Binh, President and CEO of FPT Corporation, put forth the US$1 billion revenue strategy, many raised doubts because the figure was not other than a utopian imagination. But FPT had already achieved that target and its new strategy targets at a slot in Global Forbes 500 in the coming years. “Without big dreams and ambitions, it is very difficult to attract talents,” he added.

For any company, it is quite difficult to recruit talents and inspire them to work for in a long time and with passionate devotion. To keep good employees, the company must have an "anchor". The "anchor" is perhaps the humanity, spirit, challenges or commitments of the leadership. Talents must be first given important positions and assigned to do what they are interested in.

In addition, talented employees need the trust from colleagues, especially their managers. To do a job, the result may be a success or a failure. Managers should first look at this as an assessment and a lesson for employees. It is not wise to sack an employee whenever he commits a mistake.

“You should not think that your companies are small and you cannot attract talented people. Indeed, small companies desperately need good people to grow up. FPT is also very small in the early years but it has already become a big entity because it knows how to employ talents. So, as a business leader, you must be firstly a talent, treasure talents and realize strong points of the people you have. You must know how talent is and before you know how to attract them.”

Companies are very interested in corporate culture but a few invest enough time and money to build it or confuse in building. At FPT, since its establishment, the corporate culture was formulated and has promoted throughout it development history.

Where there are FPT people, there is FPT culture. It can be cultural art programs, traditional football tournaments and longstanding regulations like no bribery, no corruption and no self-interest. In any circumstances, FPT people are optimistic and effortful for dreams to come true.

"Corporate culture closely relates to talent keeping and much impacts corporate business performances. So, building a cultural environment gives further strength not only to an individual but also to a team,” said Chau.
