As the important transitional year towards the decade of 2020-2030, the year of 2019 carries the expectation that Vietnam will accelerate their efforts together with other countries to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals in 2030 Agenda, based on the advantage of positive and impressive economic growth from the previous years and the benefits from free trade agreements that have been and should become valid soon afterwards. In the 2019 National Conference on Sustainable Development (2019 NSCD), the Breakout sessions will focus on the following key topics:
Multiplying the circular economy models in Vietnam, which target to a more effective and optimal uses of natural resources, materials, products and value they created, so that could reduce the cost of loss and waste for the economy;
Promoting the Public-Private Partnership to enhance productivity and effectual utilization of available resources, to maximize the value of investment, and to reduce risks and motivate innovation in designing, executing, operating and managing projects;
Building human capital in the new era and the role of the Human Capital Index, the sustain leadership and coordination across all levels of government, including tackling gaps and conflict in social infrastructure for efficacious speculation in human capital in long-term.
Shared knowledge and information from central and local authorities and representatives of international institutions; initiatives from businesses and open dialogues will open up solutions to current issues as well as useful policy recommendations for the Government.

Dow recognized for its efforts to reduce plastic waste while improving roads

HANOI, Vietnam – April 17, 2019 – Dow and DEEP C signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to build the first road using recycled plastics at the DEEP C Industrial Complex in Haiphong City in Vietnam. The project aims to divert post-use flexible packaging from becoming litter or entering a landfill, while also creating more durable, longer-lasting roads.

On January 18, 2019, the Final Showcase of the USAID BUILD-IT & Dow Vietnam STEM Program: Engineering Projects in Community Service was held at HCM City. More than 150 participating STEM students from six engineering and technology focused universities concluded the five-month program following the EPICS curriculum model, an internationally recognized model of service learning where students not only learn by doing but also learn by creating.

30 November 2018 – The Zero Landfill In Circular Economy Conference organized by INSEE Vietnam has taken place in Ho Chi Minh City. The conference has successfully created a forum where more than 200 local & international business leaders, government officials, environmental consultants, economists and associations can connect, exchange and discuss about the mechanism of Zero Landfill and Circular Economy. The conference thereby reaffirmed the important role of these two concepts in the development of Vietnam’s green economy. And for the first time in Vietnam, corporates/business have achieved zero landfill were honored at the conference with the Green Business Awards.
Dow joins Circulate Capital and the Ocean Conservancy with investments to keep plastic waste out of the environment
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc attended the Green Growth and the Global Goals (P4G) Summit in Copenhagen on October 20, which also drew leaders of 30 Vietnamese enterprises in green energy, trade, investment, and high technology. Addressing the event, PM Phuc expressed his belief that promising green growth projects and programmes will be promptly implemented, contributing to strongly promoting the realisation of sustainable development goals to 2030.
