Saturday, October 24, 2020, in Tuy Hoa City, Phu Yen Province, Dow Chemical Vietnam Co., Ltd. (Dow Vietnam) and the Centre for Supporting Green Development (GreenHub) collaborated with local government authorities to host a program "Communication and Education on Tackling Plastics Waste issue in Phu Yen." This program included a series of activities: beach clean-up and monitoring marine plastics waste, collecting coastal waste database and the contest of "Green School - Blue Sea" and taking commitment of “School Zero Waste” model.
The objective of these activities is to raise the awareness and educate knowledge about plastics waste through beach clean-up and marine waste monitoring event; coastal waste database collection; thereby proactively encourage the waste segregation, reuse, and recycle towards reducing waste at source for pupils in Boarding High School for Ethnic Minorities in Phu Yen Province.
The participants to the events include leaders of the Department of Education and Training, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment, Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union of Phu Yen province, leaders of the High School for Ethnic Minorities Boarding in Phu Yen province, the local Youth Union, volunteers, representatives from Dow Vietnam and GreenHub.
Mr. Ekkasit Lakkananithiphan, President of Dow Vietnam said, “Dow is strongly committed to ending plastics waste in the ocean by finding the innovative solutions to turn plastics waste into new applications, awareness enhancement and people’s behavior change for circular economy, plastics waste segregation, reuse and recycle. In order to make it happen, Dow has been closely collaborating with the government, local authorities and other related partners to organize many environmental protection events for all stakeholders to raise awareness and to find better solutions for environmental protection. We believe that if all waste is sorted, collected and recycled in the right way, the environment will be better."
The fact is that coastal waste is mostly sourced from the mainland due to rain, the waste flows with water into rivers and dumped into the sea. In addition, the coastal areas are also crowded with tourists that litter plastics waste. According to GreenHub's coastal waste statistics at 03 locations of Tuy Hoa, Dong Hoa and Tuy An, there are 2234 plastics pieces (most of them are flexible plastics bags) in Tuy An beach (Hon Yen) while Dong Hoa has 637 pieces of plastics and Tuy Hoa has 455 pieces. In addition, the results of the waste audit at Phu Yen High School for Ethnic Minorities also show that flexible plastics bags account for most of the plastics waste.

In order to raise awareness about waste reduction at source in an effective way, we prioritize the education programs for young people and students who are the most influencing group and have the most positive effects of behavior change in their family and to the whole society to contribute to environmental protection in Phu Yen province in particular and Vietnam in general."
In the afternoon of the same day, the final round of the contest "Green School - Blue Sea" also took place at the Boarding High School of Ethnic Minorities in Phu Yen Province. The theme of the contest is daily practices on waste reduction presented by 05 teams from environmental clubs at schools in Phu Yen province through the photos, videos, database, specific solutions and communication key message. As a result, the team of Luong Van Chanh High School was awarded the first prize for giving specific solutions to reduce waste, which are the people’s behavior change - a big impact on the environmental protection, and proposing 4Rs (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Replace).
Also, on this occasion, Boarding High School for Ethnic Minorities in Phu Yen province and GreenHub signed the Memorandum of Understanding on a commitment to implement and maintain the model "School Zero Waste". In addition, Dow Vietnam also donated the supporting expense for Phu Yen Ethnic Minority Boarding High School to implement the program of waste segregation at school.

In the morning of September 28, 2020, Dow Vietnam Team joined hands with Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE), People’s Committee of Ba Ria – Vung Tau Province and Parliamentary Delegation of Ba Ria – Vung Tau Province to host “the Campaign to make the world cleaner” and “the activity of donating 300 water tanks and 50 trash bins to fishermen in Ba Ria - Vung Tau Province reaching out to sea and local tourism areas.”

On the afternoon of September 10th, 2020, the representative of Phu Nhuan Jewelry Joint Stock Company (PNJ) presented medical equipment to a number of hospitals in Quang Nam and Quang Tri provinces, aiming to support for the Covid -19 prevention, as well as for future treatment activities of the Hospital.
The Vietnamese government is currently putting an ambitious goal of reducing marine plastic leakage by 75 percent by 2030. To make it happen, building a plastic circular economy is one of the solutions that Vietnam is following. Also, the public awareness enhancement and behavior change education are very important works.
With their outstanding, creative ideas and practical proposed solutions, all the teams not only convinced the fastidious judges, but also received support from the local representatives.
On September 18, 2020, INSEE Vietnam cooperated with HCM University of Technology to hold the inauguration ceremony of rural roads in Thap Muoi district, Dong Thap province. The handed-over works are part of 20th consecutive partnership year of INSEE Vietnam accompanied by Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Can Tho University.
While most cleaning and laundry products available today contain chemicals made from fossil fuel feedstocks, a non-renewable source of carbon. Unilever has decided to replace these chemicals by renewable or recycled sources of carbon.
