April 23, 2021, Quang Ninh Province - AES Mong Duong officially announced the project “Supporting the development of biosecure sow production and farming in Ha Tranh village, Cong Hoa commune, Cam Pha City, Quang Ninh Province”. The announcement ceremony was organized with the attendance of representatives from Quang Ninh Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the People's Committee of Cam Pha City, Center for Agricultural Extension of Quang Ninh Province, the coordination units, participating households, and representatives of AES Mong Duong.

The project will be implemented with the People's Committee of Cong Hoa commune as the main partner, while the Center for Agricultural Extension of Quang Ninh Province will be the implementing partner. Other coordination units include the Rural Development Agency and Livestock Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine Agency of Quang Ninh Province. The project aims to improve the livelihoods of local communities and help local farmers gain knowledge and skills in biosecure sow production; as well as improve people's quality of life by exploiting the economic, social, and environmental benefits from household-scale biogas projects.
Speaking about this project, Mr. Johnny Tanis, Plant Manager, AES Mong Duong, said: “With nearly 15 years of operation in Vietnam, the mission of AES and AES Mong Duong has been to improve lives where we operate. This unique project was designed to respond to the needs of the communities, maximize resources, and deliver long-lasting benefits. We hope that the support will open up opportunities for local people to improve their farming skills and their incomes, and further extend the use of biogas, a renewable energy resource for cooking and lighting in rural areas.”

The project, with total investment of over VND800 million for the first phase from March 2021 to January 2022, will be implemented in Ha Tranh village with the participation of 16 selected households. It is expected that in phase one of the project, main activities implemented will include providing biogas composite tanks for waste treatment, building a biosecure sow production model, technical support and training, and sharing experiences learnt with local farmers in the area.
At the launch ceremony, Mr Ngo Tat Thang, Deputy Director, Quang Ninh Department of Agriculture and Rural Development said: "Cleanliness and safety are the primary objectives in the process of restructuring the agricultural sector, towards improving added value and ensuring sustainable development, which are central to the new rural development program in Quang Ninh Province, especially in the current period when people's lives are consistently improving. We would like to thank AES Mong Duong for their efforts in supporting the community in Cam Pha City, especially with the project "Supporting the development of biosecure sow production and farming".
The project is one of AES Mong Duong’s social impact programs. Since 2012, over 130 CSR initiatives with a total value of VND12 billion have been implemented, focusing on four main pillars – Health, Education, Livelihoods and Infrastructure. The activities have made a lasting difference and contributed to improving the quality of life for more than 200,000 people in neighboring communities in Cam Pha City, Quang Ninh Province.

On 1 & 2 April 2021, BAT Vietnam’s Leadership team together with its partners had a trip to the leaf growing area in Gia Lai.
