Ho Chi Minh City, August 22, 2023 – JTI Vietnam, in collaboration with the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, jointly planted 450 new trees in the areas of Cat Que commune, Hoai Duc district, Hanoi, and Long Phuoc ward, District 9, Thu Duc City.
According to assessments by specialized agencies, one of the significant causes of severe and devastating natural disasters is the considerable impact of climate change, with increasingly unpredictable weather patterns. To contribute to the fight against climate change, besides actively minimizing waste in the living environment, production, and business sectors, it is also essential to intensify efforts in planting more urban trees, and forests, and greening vacant lands and hills.
Since 2020, JTI has launched numerous sustainable community investment projects, including projects to offset CO2 emissions and Green Office programs, aiming to achieve “carbon neutrality.”
In that spirit, on August 11th and 18th, 2023, JTI Vietnam, in coordination with the Youth Union, participated in planting 450 new trees in urban areas to contribute to increasing green coverage for the city. Specifically, over 100 Madagascar Almond trees were planted in Cat Que Commune, Hoai Duc District, Hanoi, and 350 Rose Wood (Pterocarpus Macrocarpus) trees were cultivated along the roads and canals in Long Phuoc Ward, District 9, Thu Duc City."

In the project, JTI Vietnam has consulted and selected tree species that are well adapted to the soil conditions of each locality. The Madagascar Almond tree, widely found in the Northern region, is an easy-to-grow species with a straight trunk and small leaves, providing shades while being a source of timber and highly effective medicinal ingredient. In the Southern region, the Rose Wood tree is a suitable planting option not only for its good coverage and sturdy trunk, but also its pleasant and fragrant scent during the blooming season.

Green trees play an important role in our lives, and planting trees is a practical action to reduce CO2 levels, regenerate oxygen, and contribute to minimizing the adverse effects of nature. With over 20 years of operation, JTI Vietnam is committed to sustainable development and the purpose of creating a better future. JTI Vietnam wishes to contribute even more to the community, society, and work together for a clean, green, and beautiful environment.
