BAT Vietnam to issue ESG Report towards “A Better TomorrowTM”

British American Tobacco (BAT) Vietnam officially issued its ESG Report 2022, outlining strategic purpose, approaches, initiatives, and roadmap in line with the Vietnamese market, continuing to reaffirm its leadership in the tobacco industry on Environment, Society, and Governance (ESG) reporting. BAT Vietnam also recognized Top 11 in “Top 100 Sustainable Businesses in Vietnam” at CSI 100 Programme 2023, and called out among Top 5 Pioneering Businesses in Circular Economy.

At BAT, Sustainable Development is an indispensable part of the Group's strategy and purpose to build "A Better TomorrowTM". This purpose is strongly underpinned by commitments and actions on priorities in three pillars: Environment, Society, and Governance (ESG).

BAT Vietnam’s sustainability goals are well aligned with not only the agenda of the Group but also the targets of the Vietnamese Government, which positively contributes to the National Agenda for Sustainable Development 2030 according to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) of the United Nations. This commitment from BAT Vietnam is backed by clear, specific and measurable goals in each pillar of the ESG agenda.

BAT Vietnam's ESG Report 2022 marks a 28-year journey of establishment and development in Vietnam, as well as demonstrating its commitment to transparent and effective corporate governance. This is the second consecutive time that BAT Vietnam has issued the ESG Report. Regarding the Environmental commitment, BAT Vietnam is striving to contribute to the goal of net zero emissions by 2050. The company is also adopting circular economy principles, ensuring zero waste to landfill at both manufacturing sites besides empowering their employees to make changes and minimise their environmental impact. In addition, BAT Vietnam also makes efforts to reduce water consumption and increase the use of recycled water to facilitate sustainable agricultural practices, regenerate degraded forests and protect biodiversity.

In terms of the Social focus, BAT Vietnam brings its commitment to improving the livelihoods of farmers in its supply chain to life through supporting them with income increase and crop productivity. For employees, ensuring zero accidents company-wide and creating a safe and equal working environment are always BAT Vietnam's top priorities, along with cultivating a diversity, inclusion and solidarity culture.
