10-Year Milestone of C.P. Cu Chi Food Processing Plant in Building a Responsible Food Value Chain Aligned with Sustainable Development and Net Zero 2050

As the food industry undergoes a strong transformation towards transparency, safety, and sustainability, building integrated production models and controlling the entire value chain has become an essential requirement. In Vietnam, the C.P. Cu Chi Food Processing Plant – under C.P. Vietnam Corporation – stands as a practical example of how a business can turn sustainable development principles into reality, while aligning with national goals for green growth and achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

Integrated Value Chain – Foundation for Sustainable Production and Consumption

Since its operation in 2016 at Tân Phú Trung Industrial Park (Ho Chi Minh City), the C.P. Cu Chi Plant has played a key role in C.P. Vietnam’s “Feed – Farm – Food” value chain. This model enables comprehensive control from raw materials and farming to processing and distribution, ensuring traceability and product quality.

After a decade, the plant’s capacity is expected to reach 33,000 tons per year, nearly 10 times higher than its initial output. Alongside expansion, operations have been standardized under international certifications such as GMP, HACCP, ISO 9001, and ISO 22000. This demonstrates the company’s commitment to building sustainable production and consumption practices.

Renewable Energy Solutions – Contribution to Emission Reduction Goals

One of the plant’s notable achievements is the installation of a rooftop solar power system covering more than 9,100 m², with a capacity of nearly 1.9 MWp, reducing about 17% of monthly electricity consumption. This concrete step promotes clean energy use and contributes to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, in line with Vietnam’s Net Zero 2050 roadmap.

Additionally, packaging designs have been adjusted to reduce plastic usage, with some products eliminating plastic trays entirely – a practical action to minimize plastic waste and support climate resilience.

Technology and Automation – Enhancing Quality, Reducing Risks

The plant is equipped with modern production lines featuring high levels of automation. From raw material handling to processing and packaging, many stages are designed to minimize direct contact, reduce cross-contamination risks, and ensure consistent product quality. Integrated quality control systems include automatic weighing, metal detectors, and X-ray inspection, ensuring compliance with strict domestic and international standards.

The products are rigorously tested before being released to the market

Creating Economic and Social Value for the Local Community

Over 10 years, the plant’s workforce has grown fivefold, providing stable employment opportunities for residents in Cu Chi and surrounding areas. The company also focuses on workforce development through training programs to improve skills and expertise, while maintaining initiatives to support employees and their families. This reflects the integration of economic growth with stable, quality employment.

Towards a Transparent and Sustainable Food System

The 10-year journey of the C.P. Cu Chi Plant illustrates how a business can gradually transform sustainability principles into concrete actions: building an integrated value chain, standardizing processes, applying advanced technology, optimizing resources, and developing human capital.
