To celebrate the World Environment Day 2020, Dow Vietnam Team joined hands with our plastics road partner Deep C to organise #PullingOurWeight 2020 program in Hai Phong City. More than 200 volunteers from Dow Vietnam Team, Dow customers, local waste collector, Deep C and its tenants participated in this meaningful clean-up activity. Also, sending 36 volunteers to the clean-up event, Dow’s P&SP customer VIPACO donated more than 500 trash bags for waste collection.
Sea-dyke in Hai Phong is polluted with plastics and waste
The volunteers were divided into 02 teams and spent two hours to collect the waste along the 2km sea-dyke area at Deep C Industrial Zones. As a result, we collected 50m3 of waste (equivalent to 300 kg) that include PET bottles, flexible plastics bags, bottle caps, styrofoam, paper packaging, bottles of hand sanitizer, plastics straws… The collected waste was transferred to URENCO Hai Phong that is a local waste collector for recycling.

At the clean-up event, Mr. Nguyen Hoai Son, Corporate Affairs Director of Dow Vietnam said, “It is a great pleasure for Dow to join hands with Deep C and other stakeholders to keep the waste out of the environment. Deep C is one of the biggest industrial zone developers in Vietnam with a total of 5 industrial zones and more than 3000 ha of land for lease. In 2019, Dow and Deep C successfully completed the first asphalt road using recycled plastics in Vietnam to address plastics waste issue and advance a circular economy.
At the sideline of the clean-up event, Deep C Eco team was set up with the mission of "Reduce plastic waste, Protect marine life" and the participation of young volunteers to conduct regularly environmental protection activities.
Dow Vietnam is the first geography in the Asia-Pacific that has kicked off #PullingOurWeight cleanup campaign in 2020. The Vietnamese government successfully contained the spread of Covid-19 by taking very early actions to impose more stringent social distance measures and the people seriously follow. Vietnam lessened the measures early May 2020 and Dow Vietnam team was back to office since then. As of June 15, with the total number of 334 confirmed case (323 recoveries), no death and more than 2 months without community transmission, Vietnam is back to New Normal status while continue the economic growth. In 2020, Dow Vietnam plans to host 02 #PullingOurWeight programs more in September and October 2020 in Ho Chi Minh City and Phu Yen Province, respectively.
Quang Ninh, 12 June 2020, AES Mong Duong announced its Back to School Support CSR program, which will benefit 1,500 students at the Mong Duong High School and Nguyen Trai Elementary School in Cam Pha city, Quang Ninh province, Vietnam. The support, worth nearly US$17,000 in total, includes the renovation of lighting systems and improvement of hygiene conditions. The package also includes a donation of digital equipment which will support the digital learning efforts of local teachers and students.
Hanoi, Vietnam, Monday, June 01, 2020, Dow Chemical Vietnam LLC (Dow Vietnam) donated the necessary medical supplies to the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases, including: 1,000 pieces of 3M medical masks and 60 four-liter cans of hand sanitizers, which are worth over VND 100 million. This grant project was implemented by the Project Office of the Resources Exchange International Organization (REI) in Vietnam through the connection of the People's Aid Coordinating Committee (PACCOM) with Dow Vietnam. This is a meaningful program, with the desire to support the frontline hospitals to prevent and fight against Covid-19, helping the community health resilience and to join hands with the whole country efforts to effectively prevent and control Covid-19.
