With the theme ‘AES Go Green’, AES Mong Duong organized a series of activities to promote environmental awareness among its employees, contractors and local communities.
The activities covered various aspects of environmental care, such as waste management, tree planting, marine conservation and the avoidance of single use plastics, reflecting the company’s commitment to environmental protection and sustainability. There were over 200 AES Mong Duong volunteers and contractors participating in these meaningful activities.
One of the activities was ‘Trash for Gifts’. This program invited AES employees, contractors and community residents to collect and exchange waste materials such as plastic, nylon bags, milk carton boxes, plastic bottles and used batteries for gifts such as paper/cotton bags, mini bonsai trees, books and school supplies. The program aimed to encourage the participation of AES Mong Duong employees, contractors and the local community in collectively protecting the environment through waste recycling and reuse. Its significance lies in raising awareness about the importance of waste management, and its environmental message emphasizes that every small action can make a positive impact on the environment. The activity was organized internally every week for AES Mong Duong employees and contractors and two public events at Cong Hoa and Cam Hai commune with the participation of local people. The program achieved impressive results, with 825kg of plastic waste and 18kg of used batteries collected, and 2,134 gifts exchanged.
Another activity - tree planting, which engaged the participation of AES Mong Duong employees and contractors, planted 1,500 trees across an area of 5,000 m2. The objective was to create a fresh green space, reduce noise and pollution, and create a healthy living environment for everyone and the surrounding ecosystem. It also aimed to protect the environment and maintain the balance of the ecosystem.
The third activity was marine environment care day with the participation of more than 60 volunteers, including AES Mong Duong employees and contractors, cleaned up 1,836 m2 of beach area and collected 125kg of plastic waste and styrofoam and 270kg of trash. This activity was designed to protect the marine environment from waste pollution and negative impacts, raise awareness of environmental protection, and contribute to the sustainable development of local communities.
Further the implementation to reduce and reuse our waste disposal program with target of 53 tons, reduction exceeded the whole year target in June with over 6 tons. Besides benefiting the environment, it enhances our livelihood projects as they are the main beneficiaries of our re-usable waste. Such as wood gathered from our intake structure.
Mr. Johnny Tanis, Plant Manager of AES Mong Duong, expressed his appreciation for the efforts and enthusiasm of all participants in these activities. He said: “At AES Mong Duong, we are passionate of the environment and the communities we serve. We believe that environmental protection is not only a duty but also an opportunity to create value for our business and society. We are grateful to our employees, contractors and local residents for joining us in these green initiatives. Together, we can make a difference for a better world.”
Moreover, at AES Mong Duong, we always aim to build environmental awareness by eliminating environmentally unfriendly products and encouraging employees to use packaging with environmentally friendly materials. Small meaningful efforts every day will contribute to the protection of our living environment.
