More than 500 young enterpreneurs in rural areas have been equipped with knowledge and skills to develop competency through the series of coaching & competitiveness-enhancing programs initiated by the Ho Chi Minh Central Youth Union (HCYU) and Saigon Beer-Alcohol-Beverage Corporation (SABECO) during 2022-2023.
Although Vietnam is one of the region’s fastest growing startup markets with over 3,800 young businesses, the success rate is very low – only about 3%, according to statistics from the Nextrans fund in 2020. At many conferences, experts suggested possible major causes for such situation were startups’ lack of digital capabilities and business skills. Therefore, as Vietnam is pushing on new-styled rural area development and industrial revolution 4.0, it is essential to help young entrepreneurs improve their business competence and digital capabilities for sustainable growth.
From August 22 to September 13, HCYU collaborated with SABECO to organize coaching conferences on business and digital transformation knowledge and skills in Ha Nam, Khanh Hoa and Can Tho. More than 300 participants were equipped with crucial skills from branding, marketing strategies, e-commerce distribution, digital transformation, and artificial intelligence adaptation in content creation. Additionally, the conferences presented an opportunity for the young entrepreneurs to connect with one another and get consultation from experts across multiple industries.
Along with the training activities was the semi-final round of the 2023 startup competition for rural areas. Of 446 entries from all over the country, 135 innovative business projects and ideas were shortlisted to compete in the final round to be tentatively held in Soc Trang in November.
First organized in 2022, the coaching programs are one of activities under the project of "Enhancing the competitiveness of rural youths excelling in entrepreneurship", jointly implemented by HCYU and SABECO as part of their three-year strategic partnership. More than 520 startups and young people have attended the training activities over the past two years, acquiring practical knowledge and skills to reinforce their own capabilities in order to realize their desire to get wealthy from agriculture.
Enhancing competitiveness for rural youths is part of SABECO's 4C sustainable development strategy – focusing on Country - Culture - Conservation – Consumption – to create positive values towards the sustainability and prosperity of Vietnam and its people.
