GREENFEED VIETNAM GAINS DUAL RECOGNITIONS AT THE ASIA RESPONSIBLE ENTERPRISE AWARDS 2024

On June 28th, 2024, GREENFEED Vietnam proudly announces its recognition as one of the first Vietnam agri-food companies to receive the prestigious Asia Responsible Enterprise Awards (AREA) 2024.

Surpassing 300 nominees from 19 countries, the Group's recognition as an award recipient was propelled by two standout CSR and ESG initiatives: "Supporting Farmers" and "Sustainable Resource Management." This marks the second time a Vietnam-based representative has been honored by the AREA awards. GREENFEED first received this accolade in 2018, entering the "Social Empowerment" category with its "Supporting Farmers" program.

Founded with a mission to foster sustainable communities, the "Supporting Farmers" program has been aiding farmers, particularly rural women, in enhancing their livelihoods since 2010. This initiative promotes effective livestock farming through a range of supportive measures, including:

  • Awarding interest-free loans for 2 years
  • Providing partial support for animal feed costs
  • Organizing training sessions on husbandry skills
  • Awarding scholarships to children of participant households with good academic performance
  • Deducting 20% from the initial loans for participant households that repay on time and sustain their businesses

Over the past 14 years, “Supporting Farmers” has engaged with 2,650 farming households and conducted 64 technical training sessions across 24 provinces and cities. Achieving a 95% on-time capital return rate from participating households, the program has uplifted the lives of over 11,392 individuals and provided 4,479 scholarships to the children of these households.

GREENFEED prioritizes supporting women farmers

Since 2021, GREENFEED's ESG initiative centering on sustainable resource management have yielded various achievements.

  • Conservation of land, water, air and biodiversity: GREENFEED refrains from encroaching on nature reserves, watershed forests, areas rich in biodiversity, cultural and historical sites, as well as lands inhabited by ethnic minorities.
  • Economical and effective water usage: To minimize water usage, GREENFEED implements automated feeding and watering systems on its farms, as well as practices for recycling and reusing water in animal feed production and processing.
  • Replacing fossil fuels with green energy (solar, biomass) and renewable energy (biogas): GREENFEED's renewable energy initiatives are projected to mitigate approximately 9,000 tons of CO2 emissions in 2023. All of the group’s animal feed factories in Vietnam utilize biomass fuel for their boilers. Moreover, seven farms utilize rooftop solar power systems, and six facilities operate biogas generator systems.
  • Minimizing plastic packaging: The Group is transitioning from distributing animal feed in bagged form to bulk export, thus reducing accumulated plastic packaging by 1,151 tons within 3 years (2021-2023).
  • Converting livestock waste into organic fertilizer: By recycling livestock waste into organic fertilizer, GREENFEED has supplied thousands of tons of traditional organic fertilizer and liquid vermicompost for agricultural use.

GREENFEED’s sustainable initiatives have earned recognition from the AREA 2024 Advisory Board for closely adhering to sustainable development practices in the Asian region.

Richard Tsang, President of Enterprise Asia, stated: “The interconnected challenges of climate change and social inequity underscore the urgent need for a comprehensive approach to sustainability. By adopting ESG principles, companies can innovate boldly, reduce operational risks, attract purpose-driven talent, and earn consumer loyalty through ethical practices. This holistic approach not only aligns with global sustainability goals, but also positions businesses as champions of lasting transformative change across borders and generations.”

During the award ceremony, 81 exemplary domestic and regional enterprises were honored for championing ESG practices, featuring participation from economic experts and representatives of esteemed media companies.
