The Home Love Bus came to Nghệ An, supporting underprivileged children to school

On December 13th, the Home Love Bus visited Mường Piệt School, distributing hundreds of gifts including books and warm clothes to students, and handing over three newly constructed classrooms to the school.

The Home Love Bus is a community-focused initiative by Home Credit during the year. Most recently, in collaboration with the Hope Foundation, the journey reached another destination, Mường Piệt, part of Thông Thụ 1 Primary School in Quế Phong District, Nghệ An Province, near the Vietnam-Laos border. Most students here are of Thai ethnicity, with parents primarily engaged in farming and residing close to the school.

Mr.Tăng Xuân Sơn, the school’s Principal, shared that the school was established in 1992 with temporary facilities, then from 2002 to 2006, government investment programs improved the school's infrastructure to meet the educational needs of local students.

However, over time, harsh local weather conditions, including frequent floods, severely degraded three out of the nine school classrooms. The cracked walls and fragile foundations posed safety risks, forcing the school to stop using these rooms.

Since October, the Home Love Bus arrived at Mường Piệt and initiated the construction of three new classrooms and replacing the deteriorated ones. The funding for these classrooms resulted from collective contributions, with 400 million VND from Home Credit contributing into the construction project which includes 200 million from the company fund and 200 million raised from customers through the “back-to-school” program held from September 10th to September 30th, 2024.

Principal Sơn expressed delight at the new classrooms, which ensure safety, cleanliness, and full facilities such as lighting and ventilation. These classrooms are designed to meet the 2018 General Education Program standards - a first for implementation in Quế Phong District.

During the inauguration ceremony, Home Credit, in cooperation with the Child Protection Fund, distributed 300 gifts, including warm clothes, notebooks, pens, and library books. Principal Sơn noted that these early Lunar New Year gifts brought immense joy to students, with many exclaiming: “I’ll have new clothes for Tết!”

The Home Love program, represented by the iconic red bus, began in 2021. Launched by Home Credit Vietnam, it aims to bring love and support to underprivileged children and families. Over four years, Home Love has traveled across Vietnam, visiting locations such as Mù Cang Chải (Yên Bái), A Lưới (Thừa Thiên Huế), Cam Ranh (Khánh Hòa), and Bạc Liêu. The program has renovated schools and delivered gifts to thousands of children nationwide.

Home Love activities over the years have seen the participation of more than 350 Home Credit employees as contributors and volunteers. Mr. Jakub Kudrna, Chief Strategy Officer and Chairperson of the ESG Steering Group at Home Credit Vietnam shared that the newly constructed schools not only improve the quality of infrastructure in the short term but also create an environment where students can access knowledge, nurture their dreams, and aspire for a brighter future. He added, “Aligned with the message ‘For the priceless future of children,’ part of our Home Credit Tet campaign, we are committed to sustainable investments, actively engaging employees, partners, and customers, and spreading community solidarity through tangible actions.”
