INSEE Vietnam leading the way in sharing and connecting the cement and concrete manufacturing business community through the INSEE i2i Coffee Talk Series

In the context where businesses are urgently working on greenhouse gas emissions audits as per Decree No. 06/2022/ND-CP and Decision No. 01/QD-TTg of the Government, the cement and concrete manufacturing industry needs to be more proactive in preparing for the challenges and opportunities. As a pioneer in green production, INSEE Cement is committed to creating a business community where companies can exchange, share useful information and practical experiences on emission management within the cement and concrete industry through the INSEE i2i Coffee Talk Series.

On the morning of October 27, 2023, INSEE Vietnam partnered with BSI Vietnam in the INSEE i2i Coffee Talk session on the topic of "Carbon Emission Management in Cement and Concrete Production - CHALLENGES and OPPORTUNITIES." More than 30 companies in the cement, concrete, additives, and related industries participated in this event, both in person and through the MS Teams platform.

Through the sharing and discussions at the INSEE i2i Coffee Talk event, the presenters collectively exchanged and updated valuable and practical information related to the future trends in greenhouse gas management. The focus was on the trajectory towards achieving Vietnam's commitment to carbon neutrality by 2030 and net-zero emissions by 2050. Participating businesses gained a deeper appreciation of the significance of emissions reduction and the importance of taking proactive steps to prepare for greenhouse gas reporting by March 2025. Mr. Truong Vinh Khang, Head of Sustainable Development at BSI Vietnam, emphasized that: Emissions reduction is not merely a passing trend but an inevitable aspect of the future that businesses need to acknowledge”.

At the Coffee Talk event, INSEE Vietnam representatives also had the opportunity to share more about INSEE's practical experiences and the sustainable development solutions applied throughout their journey since the early days of their operations in Vietnam. Ms. Nguyen Thi Tron, Head of Environment and Compliance at INSEE Vietnam, shared practical insights into the process of auditing and reducing greenhouse gas emissions at INSEE. Meanwhile, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Dung, Head of Sustainable Construction at INSEE Vietnam, presented methods for producing and disclosing low-carbon concrete.

As a pioneering company in green production, INSEE Cement Vietnam has implemented several effective solutions that contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by at least 24% per ton of cement produced. This reduction is achieved through stringent control of waste and gas emissions. INSEE Vietnam's products also boast significantly lower CO2 emissions, ranging from 17% to 51% less than the average emissions of 898kg of CO2 per ton of cement. Furthermore, INSEE Cement is the first cement manufacturing company in Southeast Asia to receive an international Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) certificate. This certification validates that INSEE's product portfolio fully complies with current green construction standards..

Leveraging its practical experiences, INSEE Cement Vietnam is committed to fostering a community of businesses that can share insights and practical knowledge on managing emissions within the cement and concrete industry. This collaborative effort aims to develop sustainable construction materials and seize opportunities. INSEE achieves this through its INSEE i2i Coffee Talk events and the interactive INSEE Kết Nối platform. During the presentation, Mr. Nguyễn Đăng Khoa, Head of the Production Channel Development and Projects Department at INSEE Cement Vietnam, also introduced the technical services offered by INSEE, which assist in greenhouse gas emissions and carbon footprint management for their products. INSEE strives to be a partner and a resource for businesses along this sustainability journey.

Guest speakers and delegates at the meeting

The direct discussions with the participants at the event helped clarify concerns and questions from various businesses regarding the impact of Decree No. 06/2022/ND-CP on the cement and concrete production industry. In addition, participants were keen on exploring effective solutions for managing annual carbon emissions, turning challenges into opportunities. It's evident that in the greenhouse gas inventory process, Vietnam currently lacks industry-specific data. Therefore, reducing emissions in the cement and concrete production sector requires collaboration and knowledge-sharing within a community of businesses. Together, they can cooperate and build specific roadmaps to address these challenges.

Let's join hands with INSEE Vietnam to "rise above challenges, turn difficulties into opportunities," and work together to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. Everything we build contributes to making this world a better place to live in!
