BAT Vietnam Releases 2023 ESG Report and recognised Top 10 most sustainable businesses in Vietnam

BAT Vietnam has released its 2023 ESG Report, marking nearly 30 years of presence in Vietnam. This is the third consecutive year that BAT Vietnam has published a report on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) criteria.

The 2023 ESG Report affirms BAT Vietnam's commitment to creating lasting values

The report provides an overview of the company’s progress and efforts in integrating sustainability commitments into our business operations, and continuing to create values for stakeholders through clear goals and roadmaps of practical initiatives.

Environmental management and protection initiatives are significantly highlighted. BAT Vietnam minimizes the environmental impact of its operations and business activities by reducing greenhouse gas emissions across its operational chain (scope 1 and 2) and value chain (scope 3). The company also actively contributes to the conservation of biodiversity and ecosystems as well as CO2 sequestration in the natural environment to tackle climate change through the afforestation programme in cooperation with GAIA Nature Conservation Center.

Through the afforestation project in collaboration with GAIA, launched in 2022, BAT Vietnam demonstrates its strong commitment to two major priorities within the company's sustainability agenda, including: Protecting and conserving biodiversity and ecosystems, and Tackling climate change.

Thus, in 2024, BAT Vietnam continues collaborating with GAIA to regenerate 40 hectares of mudflats into forests in Ca Mau Cape National Park. To kick off this year’s event, BAT Vietnam organized the ESG Day (Sustainable Development Day) program with the participation of 50 employees - contributing hundreds of volunteer hours, along with employees and volunteers from GAIA, and officers from Ca Mau Cape National Park Management Board, who worked together to built fences and set up nets to zone and plant white mangrove trees.

For the previous 2022 and 2023, BAT Vietnam along with GAIA regenerated 80 hectares of mudflats into forest in Ca Mau Cape National Park, while also covering an additional 4 hectares of forest in Dong Nai Culture and Nature Reserve, bringing the total area under the afforestation program to 124 hectares in Dong Nai and Ca Mau over three years. BAT Vietnam and GAIA will continue to promote care, monitoring, and reporting activities in the following years to ensure the survival rate of the trees.

BAT Vietnam and GAIA jointly organized the program of delineating and promoting the natural regeneration of 40 hectares of mudflats in the core area of Ca Mau Cape National Park

According to reports, the two areas that BAT Vietnam and GAIA regenerated in 2022 and 2023 have begun to have a significant number of young saplings emerging. These saplings are being nurtured to grow, promising to develop into robust mangrove forests in Ca Mau Cape in the next few years.

Through remarkable achievements, BAT Vietnam was honored as one of Top 10 most sustainable businesses in Vietnam 2024 at the Announcing ceremony organized by VCCI.

This title represents a significant milestone for BAT Vietnam at the CSI 100, marking the first time the company has secured a position among the Top 10 sustainable development businesses in Vietnam after six participations. Notably, in 2023, the company was ranked 11th.
