Mondelez Kinh Do: Putting Sustainability at the Core of Operations

Over the past 10 years, Mondelez Kinh Do has built a strong presence in Vietnam by embedding sustainability into every aspect of its operations. Guided by the vision of “Leading the Future of Snacking”, the company has not only won the hearts of consumers and secured its market position, but also built two world-class manufacturing facilities, created thousands of jobs, and made significant contributions to the national economy.

Balancing operational efficiency and environmental responsibility

“At Mondelez Kinh Do, sustainability is a strategic foundation embedded across our operations. Striking a balance between operational efficiency and environmental responsibility enables us to optimize performance while creating long-term, tangible value for both the business and the community. We believe this holistic approach will continue to drive superior and lasting value for Mondelez Kinh Do in Vietnam.” said Ms. Bang Kim Ngan, Plant Director at Mondelez Kinh Do in Ho Chi Minh City.

Mondelez Kinh Do has continuously invested in its two factories with modern technology and advanced management systems

Mondelez Kinh Do has made substantial investments in its two plants in Hung Yen and Ho Chi Minh City, aligning them with international standards such as ISO 9001, ISO 14001, FSSC 22000, and adopting advanced management systems. To minimize environmental impact, both facilities have implemented a wide range of solutions to reduce emissions, conserve water, cut food waste, and shift to renewable energy.

“Both of Mondelez Kinh Do’s plants are operated under the IL6S model, a powerful integration of Lean and Six Sigma, which helps minimize waste, improve productivity, and optimize resource use. The IL6S model fosters a culture of continuous improvement, thereby enhancing employees’ capabilities, strengthening operational effectiveness, and boosting product quality to better serve our consumers, all while minimizing environmental impact, an essential part of our sustainability strategy.” said Mr. Bui Tien Chung, Plant Director at Mondelez Kinh Do in Hung Yen.

At the Hung Yen plant, a solar power system introduced in 2023 now generates millions of kWh of clean energy each year, significantly reducing CO₂ emissions. By mid-2025, the plant had cut water usage by 42.1% and reduced food waste by 37% compared to 2018. Water reuse and recycling processes have also been optimized.

Meanwhile, the Ho Chi Minh City plant has implemented automation solutions that have led to a 16.6% reduction in CO₂ emissions, a 41.5% reduction in water usage, and a 25.4% decrease in food waste.

“These figures reflect more than just operational performance, they’re proof of our long-term vision to build a responsible supply chain and advance toward Net Zero”, Mr. Chung emphasized.

End-to-end innovation for the planet from ingredients to packaging

In tandem with process improvements, Mondelez Kinh Do has rolled out a range of circular economy initiatives nationwide, targeting paper, plastic, and food waste.

A standout example is the company’s partnership with Green Connect, which recycles food waste into animal feed and produces cage-free eggs, creating a closed-loop system that delivers dual benefits, waste reduction and contributions to a cleaner supply chain.

Mondelez Kinh Do is also collaborating with partners to drive livestock transformation, with a bold target of using 100% cage-free eggs in all products by 2030, a major step toward a responsible supply chain.

The company also champions circularity in packaging through nationwide collection and recycling partnerships while proactively implementing the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR). As part of its packaging strategy, Mondelez Kinh Do has transitioned 100% of its packaging to recyclable materials and introduced innovations like plastic reduction, lower ink usage, and optimized package sizing,… resulting in the remove of hundreds of tons of virgin plastic annually.

“We take a comprehensive approach to sustainability, across raw materials, packaging, and food waste management. Each innovation and partnership share a common goal: to generate long-term value for the business, the community, and the planet.” added Ms. Ngan.

A sustainable journey powered by people

For Mondelez Kinh Do, sustainability isn’t just a corporate strategy, it’s a journey shaped by every individual across the organization. Community responsibility is woven into the company’s culture, visible in countless initiatives focused on people and the environment.

From donating essential food supplies and organizing blood drives, to supporting disadvantaged children, promoting food waste awareness and sustainable living, and donating hundreds of refurbished laptops to students in need, each action reflects the deep sense of responsibility held by every Mondelez Kinh Do team member.

Community responsibility is woven into the company’s culture

“Our greatest pride lies in the shared commitment and heartfelt contributions made by each and every person at Mondelez Kinh Do. Every initiative reflects our unwavering effort to minimize impact and generate positive change. It’s not just a responsibility, it’s how we define long-term, purpose-led growth in Vietnam.” Ms. Ngan affirmed

Over its 10-year journey in Vietnam, Mondelez Kinh Do has received numerous prestigious accolades. These include back-to-back rankings in the Top 50 Sustainable Businesses in Vietnam (CSA), three consecutive years in the Top 30 Outstanding FDI Enterprises at the Golden Dragon Awards, and three years in the Top 100 Sustainable Companies (CSI). Mondelez Kinh Do was also named one of Asia’s Best Workplaces by HR Asia in 2024 and has held the title of “Vietnam’s Best Place to Work” by Anphabe for five consecutive years. The company has also been recognized multiple times at the AmCham CSR Awards and ESG Impact Showcase and listed in Binh Duong’s Green Book.
